Don’t worry, this is a primary-free diary; it’s also my first diary since the big switch! Because controversy-free diaries without adorable cats have a hard time making the rec list these days, I am more than willing to argue with anyone over whether the white coat looks better than the aubergine coat to make this a controversial discussion. I will also flame you on request.*
This morning, I found a large rip in my winter coat, so I went online to find another one. I did a Google search on “winter coat sale,” which led me to JC Penny’s. They had a few different coats for men and women that were steeply discounted. For example, the coat above was originally priced at $150 (according to the Website), but it was on sale today for $24.99. A warm-looking puffer jacket for men was marked down from $100 to $24.99. You could also use the discount code provided at the top of the page (good through Dec 24) and, depending on how much you spent, get another 20% to 25% off. The cherry on top? Free shipping.
Although they did not have what I was looking for, I ended up buying three coats and a few other items to push me to just over $100. This allowed me to apply the 25% discount code, reducing the cost of each coat to around $20. I bought a woman’s coat and two men’s coats (including a plus-sized coat) and, as soon as they arrive, will be delivering them to a local homeless shelter that collects new or lightly used coats.
Next, I visited Lands End, where they had some coats that were 50% off. The discount code at the top was for an additional 50% off and shipping was included. I purchased a very nice down coat originally overpriced at $209 for $58. I really hate being cold and imagine other people do, too.
So, if you have a little money and time to spare, I encourage you to buy a coat or two or three for men, women, teens, or children and donate them to a local homeless shelter. You could also consider a domestic violence shelter or even check with the local school to see if they might know a family in need and would allow you to make an anonymous donation. I suggest darker colors in case they do not have ready access to a washing machine.
Alternatively, if you buy a new coat for yourself or someone in your family, consider donating any lightly used coat to those in need.
As if you needed more incentive (I know how much people here love to help others!), any donation you make will be tax deductible.
I would love it if we could make 100 people warm today! Only 97 coats to go!
Whether you are a Hillary supporter or a Bernie supporter or undecided, have a happy holiday while making someone else happy—and warm--this holiday season!
